Whitehaven Theatre Group was formed in 1970, Celebrating our 50th Anniversary in 2020. We are an amateur society that tries to bring the opportunity to experience live theatre to the community through participation as actors, singers, production, crew and audience. The group has gone on to perform musicals, plays and pantomimes almost every year since in the beautiful Georgian port of Whitehaven, on the west coast of Cumbria. Several of our members and shows have been nominated for NODA North West Awards, our production of “Abigail’s Party” won the award for the Best Play in 2002 and in 2019 our Chairman, Shaun Donald won the award for Best Male Comedy Performance for his role as Muddles in our 2018 “Sleeping Beauty” pantomime and Marc Goodwin won the award for Best Actor in a Drama for his role of Billy in our 2019 play “Stags & Hens – The Remix”.
Our Current Members age from 7 years old to 81 years old and all have a passion for the live arts, be it on the stage or behind the scenes.
We have our very own rehearsal building located at Esk Avenue, which as well as rehearsal space also contains our workshop. Our rehearsals are normally held on a Monday and Wednesday night and on a Sunday afternoon/evening for musicals and pantomimes.
Throughout the year we hold fundraising events, these can be fun for all the family, including quizzes, sponsored walks and other events. As we are a non-profit organisation every penny goes towards our productions, we are always planning new ways for our members and non-members to get involved!!
